I took my camera out along the Brayford and met a man on a boat. I had to change the settings on my camera due to it been a sunny and bright day, to do this I lowered the ISO and changed my shutter speed slightly. I feel that I could improve upon this image dramatically with the framing, but this was the first time I have ever gone up to a total stranger and asked to take his photo, so I think I possibly rushed it and didn’t take as many shots as I would have liked.
Portrait of a Friend
I struggled to come up with an idea of how and who i wanted to photograph as a friend’s portrait. I came back from a lecture one afternoon to see my flatmate sat in the smoking shelter having a cigarette. It was a dull day so I had to adjust my ISO to get a brighter and more appealing photograph. I attempted various shots with Amber sat in different positions on the benches to see which looked best in the space. I wanted to get across a natural atmosphere and I think Amber’s body posture shows this in the photo.
Self Portrait
For one of our Photography workshops we had to become a character apart from ourselves. I chose to dress up as a Mexican girl with a sombrero, poncho and moustache. As a group we took it in turns to photograph each other by looking at the framing and lighting while doing so. I particularly like the vibrant colours in contrast with the grey background in this image.
Artist Research – Veronika Richterova
This is just one of the many sculptures from Czech artist Veronika Richterova, from her project ‘PET ART.’ I find it fascinating how she uses recycled materials such as the plastic bottle to create such strong meaningful artwork. The colour and texture which comes from the recycled objects is really eye-catching, but the main reason i found this project so interesting is because she uses things which people throw out. I got my inspiration from looking at her work and how i could target people about littering on the streets by photographing the rubbish i found in relation to how we are harming the environment. I did this by thinking about how i placed my objects with the plants I used.
